Wieland Electric was founded in 1910 in Bamberg, Germany, and remains a medium-sized family business more than a century later, now employing over 1,700 people across 14 subsidiaries and 70 sales partners worldwide. The company pioneered pluggable electrical installation technology with its gesis system — cutting installation time by more than half — and later developed the samos safety control system, whose name stands for "Safety Modular System." Wieland expanded its automation and safety technology know-how through the acquisition of German company Schleicher, and today supplies electrical connectors, DIN-rail terminal blocks, safety relays, safety switches and interlocking devices, serving machine building, logistics and building automation applications across more than 70 countries.
