Rosemount Engineering Company was founded in 1956 in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area of Minnesota by Frank Werner, Robert Keppel and Vernon Heath, initially focused on precision sensors for the U.S. aerospace and space programs — the founders had earlier taken up skiing and tried inventing a better ski boot before turning their engineering talents to pressure sensing. The company diversified into commercial process industries in 1966, becoming known as Rosemount Inc., and introduced the industry-standard Model 1151 Pressure Transmitter in 1969. Emerson Electric acquired Rosemount in 1976, later integrating it with fellow Emerson acquisition Fisher Controls in 1992 to form the world's largest supplier of process control equipment, and Rosemount's 3051 series (launched 1988 with its innovative Coplanar design) remains one of the most widely installed pressure transmitter platforms in the process industries today.
