Moog Inc. traces its origins to April 1950, when Bill Moog — a design engineer at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratories in Buffalo, New York, and cousin of synthesizer inventor Robert Moog — applied for a patent on the electrohydraulic servo valve, a device enabling fine control of hydraulic actuators. Working from the basement of his East Aurora home under the name Little Gem Valve Company, Moog officially established Moog Valve Company on 1 July 1951 with his brother Art Moog and engineer Lew Geyer, initially targeting guided missile controls. The company grew into a global leader in precision motion control, supplying flight control actuators for aircraft including the F-14, F-18, Boeing 747 and Space Shuttle orbiter, and today operates across aircraft controls, space and defense controls, and industrial controls from its headquarters in Elma, New York, with facilities in 26 countries.
