Koyo Electronic Industries was founded in Japan and grew through the post-war decades, developing non-contact relays under the KOYO-O-MATIC name in 1962 — a precursor technology to the modern programmable logic controller. The company went on to develop its KOSTAC series of modular PLCs, expanding internationally in January 1994 by establishing PLC Direct as a privately held Georgia corporation subsidiary focused solely on the micro PLC market — a venture that would later be renamed AutomationDirect.com. Koyo Electronics Industries continues today as JTEKT Electronics Corporation, part of the global JTEKT Group, manufacturing programmable controllers, sensors, rotary encoders, proximity switches and electronic counters for factory automation applications worldwide.
