Bürkert Fluid Control Systems was founded in 1946 in Ingelfingen, Germany, by Christian Bürkert, whose first invention was a precise bimetallic temperature controller for agricultural incubators in the post-war period. His first industrial customer, water and steam system manufacturer Wilhelm Bälz, commissioned a rod temperature controller that gave Christian valuable insight into the fluidics market, inspiring the development of a range of solenoid valves that became the company's core business. Following Christian Bürkert's death in a plane crash in 1971, his wife Dorothee asked employees to stay on for at least a year — most honoured her request, and the company continued to thrive. Now with five factories across Germany, France, the US and China, more than 3,800 employees and revenue of roughly €711 million, Bürkert remains a global leader in fluid control systems, offering solenoid valves, process and analytical valves, pneumatic actuators, sensors and flow measurement equipment across chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage and water treatment industries.
