AutomationDirect traces its origins to January 1994, when founder Tim Hohmann established PLCDirect as a privately held Georgia corporation and a subsidiary of Koyo Electronics, part of the multi-billion-dollar JTEKT group — Koyo had already been designing and manufacturing PLCs for some of the world's largest automation companies, including General Electric, Texas Instruments and Siemens. PLCDirect was the first entity within the JTEKT group to focus specifically on the micro PLC market, later renamed AutomationDirect.com Inc. as its product range expanded well beyond PLCs into motors, drives, sensors and industrial control components. The company remains known for its direct-sales, value-priced business model, building its DirectLOGIC PLC platform into a widely used control system for small-to-medium automation applications.
