Atlas Copco was founded in 1873 in Stockholm, Sweden, as AB Atlas, originally manufacturing railway equipment before pivoting toward compressed air and mining equipment in the early 20th century. The company merged with Diesel Motorer AB in 1917 to form Atlas Diesel, later becoming Atlas Copco in 1956 after acquiring the Belgian compressor company Copco. Today headquartered in Nacka, Sweden, and listed on Nasdaq Stockholm, Atlas Copco is a global leader in air compressors, vacuum solutions, industrial tools and assembly systems, with its Elektronikon compressor controller — a microprocessor-based monitoring and control system — remaining central to how customers manage compressor performance, service scheduling and energy efficiency worldwide.
