Messung Systems was founded in 1981 in Pune, India, by Farook Merchant, an electronics engineer from the College of Engineering, Pune, who began developing a prototype programmable logic controller in a garage. Within a few years Messung launched Meprolog-H — India's first indigenous PLC — installing the first unit at Kirloskar Oil Engines, Pune, in 1984, and winning the G.S. Parkhe Award and FIE Foundation Award for Best Product Design in 1986. Merchant received the National Award for Outstanding Entrepreneur in 1988, the same era Messung launched the XMP8-40, India's first 8-bit microprocessor-based PLC, which went on to achieve 6,000 installations. Now a diversified group spanning Industrial Automation, Building & Home Automation, Electrical Engineering and Workplace Technology, Messung remains headquartered in Pune with a pan-India presence and global partnerships, continuing to rank among India's top PLC manufacturers more than four decades after its garage-workshop beginnings.
