Who is Gilbarco Veeder-Root?
Gilbarco traces its roots to 1870, when Charles Gilbert and John Barker founded Gilbert & Barker Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Massachusetts, going on to invent the first practical measuring gasoline pump in 1911. Separately, Veeder Manufacturing Company was established in 1895 by Curtis Hussey Veeder in Hartford, Connecticut, to produce mechanical cyclometers, merging in 1928 with the Root Company (founded 1866) to form Veeder-Root, which became renowned for fuel measurement and automatic tank gauging. Danaher Corporation united both legacies in 2002, acquiring Gilbarco and merging it with Veeder-Root to create Gilbarco Veeder-Root, which passed to Fortive Corporation in 2016 and then Vontier Corporation in 2020 — today a global leader in fuel dispensers, automatic tank gauging and point-of-sale systems for the fuel retail industry.
