Who is Foxboro?
The Foxboro Company was founded in 1908 in Foxboro, Massachusetts, by brothers E.H. and B.B. Bristol, who moved three earlier businesses into an empty factory on Neponset Street and renamed the enterprise in 1914. The company pioneered numerous industry firsts including the first multipen temperature recorder (1909), the first pneumatic controller, the first proportional-plus-reset controller (the Model 10 Stabilog Controller, which helped the company survive the Depression), and in 1972 its first distributed control system, SPEC 200. The Bristol family retained minority ownership through Foxboro's 1950s IPO all the way until its 1990 acquisition by British conglomerate Siebe plc (later Invensys), and Foxboro — celebrated for its 100th anniversary in 2008 — continues today as a distributed control system and process automation brand under Schneider Electric, which acquired Invensys in 2014.
