Who is Bently Nevada?
Bently Nevada was founded in 1961 by Don Bently in Carson Valley, Nevada. Bently's development of the eddy current proximity probe became the first commercially successful transducer of its kind — and was ultimately adopted by the American Petroleum Institute (API) as the standard device for measuring shaft vibration during acceptance testing of centrifugal compressors, a standard still referenced across the industry today. The company grew its monitoring system product line through the 1970s-1990s (including the 1700, 3300, 5000 and 9000 series), before Don Bently sold the company to GE Energy in 2002 at $250 million in annual sales. Following GE's 2017 merger with Baker Hughes, Bently Nevada operates today as a Baker Hughes business, with over 1,400 employees, facilities in nine countries, and more than four million sensors installed worldwide across oil & gas, power generation, petrochemical and other critical-machinery industries.
